Canada offers over 80 different immigration pathways, but Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) remain the most popular. Understanding the difference is crucial for your migration strategy.

Express Entry System

Express Entry is a points-based system (CRS) that ranks candidates based on age, education, and work experience. It consists of three main programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canadian Experience Class. It is generally the fastest route for high-scoring skilled workers.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The PNP allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. PNPs are designed to meet the specific economic needs of the province.

The Key Difference: CRS Score

  • If your CRS score is high enough to meet the cutoff, Express Entry is faster.
  • If your score is lower, obtaining a PNP nomination can give you an additional 600 points in the Express Entry pool, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
